Finish Strong, Start Stronger

Wrap this year up with confidence and set the stage for your best year yet

Greetings, Weekday Heroes! Welcome to CONQUER THE CLIMB, a newsletter focusing on providing valuable insights, strategies, and tips in sales and marketing.

If you’re new, you can subscribe here and join the climb.

It’s Conquer The Climb Tuesday, which means it’s time for me to solve the world’s sales and marketing problems.

Before we begin, I’d like to ask a favor… forward this email to a friend, colleague, or family member who you think might be interested in this content. The newsletter audience has been steadily growing at 15% month over month and I’m excited about where it’s headed.

Now let’s jump in…

Thanksgiving is officially a wrap! I hope you had the chance to spend quality time with your loved ones and avoided any holiday mishaps – unlike me.

It wasn’t anything too serious, but while preparing for the Thanksgiving feast and peeling potatoes, I somehow managed to slice my finger.

Luckily, I’m married to a doctor (OB/GYN). So instead of heading to the ER, I found myself in the labor and delivery ward getting patched up.

I’m pretty sure I’m the only guy who’s ever been treated there… “If you ain’t first, you’re last!”

Now let’s really jump in…

As the year draws to a close

Ah, December - now is time to reflect on marketing wins, tackle unfinished tasks, and lay the groundwork for a successful new year – all while trying to hide Christmas gifts from our kids and finding the perfect gift for our spouse.

Balancing family and business holiday stress requires patience, and at some point, you’ll wonder if you’ve bitten off more than you can chew.

But have no fear, I’m here to help with the marketing. You’ll have to figure out the family stress on your own.

Let’s break down what you need to do before year-end.

Reflect and Refine

Start with a deep dive into your marketing performance.

  • Which campaigns delivered the best ROI?

  • What content resonated most with your audience?

  • What did your customers say?

These reflections not only highlight successes but also pinpoint opportunities for improvement.

Action Tip: Use data to create a performance summary. Share it with your team to align with what worked and what didn’t.

Strengthen Your Foundation

The end of the year is perfect for fine-tuning the basics by updating your marketing strategy.

  • Ensure marketing goals are aligned with overall business objectives.

  • Revamp lead generation strategies to stay competitive.

  • Update buyer personas and customer journey maps to reflect the evolving needs of your audience.

Action Tip: Schedule a strategy meeting with key stakeholders from both marketing and other departments. Use this time to review company goals, update priorities, and adjust marketing initiatives accordingly.

Celebrate and Engage

Use the holiday season to show gratitude.

  • Thank your customers for their loyalty with personalized messages via in-person visits, phone calls, and emails.

  • Consider running a festive social media campaign like countdowns critical year-end tasks to keep your audience engaged.

Action Tip: Launch a “Year in Review” campaign showcasing your company’s milestones, employee impact, and customer success stories.

Plan for Q1 Success

Looking ahead is just as important as looking back.

  • Finalize your Q1 campaigns now – solidify themes, messaging, and creative assets to hit the ground running in January.

  • Create a clear, actionable workflow to give you a competitive edge as the new year begins.

Action Tip: Build a content calendar for Q1, including blog posts, social media themes, and email campaigns. Ensure each channel is working in tandem and reinforces your key message.

Strengthen Sales and Marketing Alignment

End-of-year reflections should also include internal teams. Hold a joint meeting with sales and marketing to:

  • Review shared goals.

  • Identify any gaps in processes.

  • Plan unified strategies for the year ahead

Action Tip: Create a collaborative content strategy that supports both teams’ objectives.

End Strong, Start Stronger

The final days of the year are critical for ensuring you don’t leave money or opportunities on the table. Whether it’s sending that last holiday promotion, retiring outdated tools, or finalizing budgets, every small step contributes to a successful close to the year.

Reminder: A thoughtful year-end, wrap-up isn’t just about closing one chapter – it’s about opening the next with clarity and purpose.

There you have it

As you wrap up another crazy year and head into the holiday season, be sure to take a moment to reflect on both the wins and the challenges. Whether you’re navigating family chaos or trying to hit your year-end goals, remember that it’s all about balance and planning – and sometimes a little humor to keep things in perspective.

Here’s to finishing the year strong, avoiding hospital visits, and setting ourselves up for even greater success in the year ahead.

Wishing you a restful and productive holiday season!
